Concretene’s first industrial-scale trial was conducted as part of the construction of a new gym in Amesbury, Wiltshire.

This formed the final part of the Innovate UK-funded scheme that began with lab trials at The University of Manchester (UoM) and was run by Nationwide Engineering and the core development team from UoM’s Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre.

An 800m2 ground-bearing slab was poured in two sections with no steel reinforcement grid and 30% less overall material.

  • Innovate UK-funded trial
  • 800m2 floor slab (47 x 17 x 0.15m)
  • 30% overall material reduction
  • Compressive strength +18% over design
  • Two weeks saved on site programme
  • Est. CO2 saving = 20.7 tonnes
