Parking bays outside The University of Manchester’s £60m Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) were chosen as a first demonstrator for outdoor performance of Concretene. The trial was funded and contracted by Nationwide Engineering.

This trial involved thinning of the slab, removal of anti-crack mesh and no expansion joints.

The slab has performed well after three years of weather-exposure and highway loading with no visible signs of wear.

  • Heavy-goods parking bay slab
  • 37% reduction in slab thickness
  • No shrinkage or cracking
  • Compressive strength +21% over design
  • Est. CO2 saving = 3.8 tonnes
