Escape to Freight Island

Mayfield Depot is a 10,000 capacity venue, developed from a former railway station in central Manchester into a multi-use space for arts, music, industry and culture.

In 2021, the site was selected for a live trial of Concretene, the first use of the material on steel deck and our first commercial client, creating a mezzanine floor for a new, multi-use space in the venue.

This type of slab is typical of application in steel-framed multi-storey construction, eg. office space, car parks etc. It was laid with no reinforcement grid and displayed rapid early strength, allowing powerfloats to begin polishing one end of the slab before the other end had finished being poured (see timelapse video below).

Since deployment, the mezzanine has been used as an ice-rink, a roller-rink and as a venue for watching 6 Nations rugby and World Cup football.
